Mayukh Chakraborty won the inaugural WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event at Playground in Kahnawake, Quebec, on September 10, 2026. The tournament drew 2,844 entries and created an official prize pool of CA$12,689,928.

Chakraborty collected CA$1.5 million and his first World Series of Poker Circuit ring. The World Series of Poker described the tournament as the largest live poker event in Canadian history.

A major test for Kahnawake’s gaming economy

The event brought one of poker’s best-known international brands to the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ke. The festival ran from August 26 to September 12 at Playground. It offered more than CA$14 million in guaranteed prize pools across the series, according to the event announcement.

The scale gives Kahnawake a stronger position in Canada’s live poker economy. It also gives the Montreal area a tournament capable of attracting players, staff and visitors over several weeks.

The prize pool shows the money distributed to tournament winners and other qualifying players. It does not measure casino revenue, tax receipts, hotel spending or the event’s total economic impact.

International brand, Indigenous jurisdiction

Playground operates within the Territory of Kahnawà:ke, where gaming activity is overseen through the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission and local regulatory structures. The commission’s poker-room rules require operators in Kahnawake to obtain a licence.

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke identifies gaming as part of its economic development strategy. Its Gaming Working Group says the community is seeking to expand online and land-based gaming, increase community-generated revenue and maintain responsible regulation.

The WSOP stop connects an international poker brand with a distinct Indigenous gaming jurisdiction. It does not create a Quebec-wide online gambling licence or represent a national Canadian market launch.

Playground’s record extends beyond the Main Event

The series also produced a larger entry total in its CA$500 Mini Main Event. WSOP recorded 3,484 entries and a CA$1,289,503 prize pool for that tournament.

Those figures point to demand across several price levels, not only among high-stakes players. They also strengthen Playground’s position as a destination for major live poker events in Canada.

For Kahnawake, the next commercial question is whether the festival becomes a repeat attraction. One tournament demonstrates audience demand, but it does not establish the long-term effect on local employment, hospitality spending or community revenue.
