River Cree Resort & Casino announced on October 14, 2026, that it had selected Gaming Innovation Group, known as GiG, to power a planned online sportsbook and casino in Alberta. The deal gives the Enoch Cree Nation-owned business a path into Alberta’s regulated digital market. It also connects the resort brand and its loyalty base to future online services.

The service is not publicly available yet. River Cree’s official online gaming page describes the offering as “coming soon.” The announcement marks a technology and expansion milestone, not a confirmed launch.

River Cree has chosen its online technology partner, but the betting and casino platform still needs to go live and meet Alberta’s regulatory requirements.

What GiG will provide

GiG will supply the core technology for the proposed operation. Its package includes:

  • an iGaming platform;
  • online sportsbook and casino products;
  • a mobile application and customer-facing website;
  • analytics and automation tools;
  • functions linking online and resort activity;
  • managed operational services.

The structure allows River Cree to build a digital product around an established Alberta hospitality and gaming name instead of launching as an unknown online brand. GiG described the agreement as a full turnkey partnership.

Why the deal matters in Alberta

Alberta’s regulated iGaming market opened on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation manages commercial agreements and market operations. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates the industry.

Operators must be registered with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and hold a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, according to the province’s iGaming strategy.

River Cree is already listed in an Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis registration record as River Cree iGaming Limited Partnership o/a River Cree iGaming, with an Alberta address in Enoch. Registration alone does not show that a public betting or casino website is operating.

That distinction matters as Alberta adds private operators to a market that previously relied heavily on government-run online gaming. The provincial framework includes centralized self-exclusion, advertising restrictions and other player-protection measures.

  • 3% of gross gaming revenue is planned for First Nations and social-responsibility initiatives.
  • Alberta plans to retain 20% of net iGaming revenue after allocations.

An Indigenous-owned brand enters the field

River Cree’s planned entry would give an Indigenous-owned Alberta gaming business a direct digital presence alongside national and international operators. The physical resort is owned by the Enoch Cree Nation. The online operation is registered through a separate Alberta limited partnership.

The next step is execution. River Cree must move from registration and technology selection to a live service that meets Alberta’s requirements for regulatory compliance, identity checks, geolocation, safer gambling and reporting.

Until the company confirms a launch date, the online brand remains in preparation.
