DAZN Bet is testing whether its sports-streaming audience can help it compete in Canada’s crowded online gambling market.

DAZN Bet launched in Ontario on June 30, 2026, and entered Alberta on July 13. Canada is the operator’s first expansion market outside Europe, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

The company is building a separate sportsbook and online casino business around its sports-streaming brand. Customers currently watch sports on DAZN and use DAZN Bet on another device. Betting transactions do not take place directly inside the streaming service.

Canada is the first expansion market outside Europe

DAZN Bet operates in European markets including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria. The Ontario launch was its first North American gambling entry.

Alberta followed less than two weeks later. The province had opened its regulated competitive iGaming market, giving DAZN Bet access to a newer market with fewer established customer habits.

Ontario offers a larger and more established customer base, but competition is intense. The iGaming Ontario directory listed:

  • 48 operators
  • 83 regulated gaming websites
  • DAZN Bet among the sites offering casino games and sports betting

The figures were listed as of August 6, 2026, according to iGaming Ontario.

Alberta requires operators to register with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission and sign a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The commission oversees regulation. The corporation manages commercial agreements and related financial reporting.

The sports audience is the central acquisition bet

DAZN Bet’s strategy depends on the relationship DAZN already has with sports fans. That audience could reduce the cost and effort required to attract customers compared with a sportsbook without an established media platform.

The company has not published Canadian customer or revenue results in the material reviewed for this report.

DAZN holds Canadian rights for several sports properties. In May 2026, it announced a six-year media agreement to carry Saturday Night Football games in Canada during the Canadian Football League season beginning in 2027.

That agreement gives DAZN another domestic sports connection as it develops its betting operation. It does not guarantee that streaming subscribers will become gambling customers.

A DAZN subscriber must still open a separate DAZN Bet account, complete provincial checks and choose the platform over established sportsbooks and casinos.

Online casino expands the commercial opportunity

DAZN Bet is not relying only on sports wagers. Canadian customers can also access casino games and live dealer products, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

The broader product range increases both the potential revenue opportunity and the importance of provincial compliance and player-protection controls.

Ontario requires players to be at least 19 and physically located in the province. On May 14, 2026, the province launched BetGuard, which allows eligible users to exclude themselves from all regulated online gaming platforms in Ontario.

Alberta requires registered operators to integrate with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission’s centralized self-exclusion program. Players can exclude themselves from registered iGaming, land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres, or from both categories.

What the Canadian test will show

DAZN Bet’s performance will depend on more than how quickly it enters new provinces. The key measure will be whether its media audience produces sustainable gaming activity.

The company says it will adjust marketing and product investment based on early customer behaviour, provincial rules and market conditions, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

In Ontario, DAZN Bet must attract customers in a mature market with dozens of regulated competitors. In Alberta, early entry may give it time to establish a customer base before the newer market becomes more crowded.

The launches therefore create a direct test of the media-led gambling model: whether sports visibility can translate into betting and casino activity without removing the costs of account registration, compliance and competition.
