DAZN Bet Expands Into Alberta Without Putting Bets Inside DAZN Streams
DAZN Bet is entering Alberta while keeping sportsbook transactions separate from DAZN’s streaming platform amid provincial rules and consent requirements.
DAZN Bet is expanding from Ontario into Alberta while keeping sportsbook transactions outside the DAZN streaming platform. The company’s current model requires customers to watch sports on DAZN and place bets separately on a second screen.
Richard Rawlinson, managing director of DAZN Bet Canada, said in a September 3, 2026 interview with Yogonet that the operator has no current plans to offer betting directly inside DAZN’s streaming service.
Any closer connection between the products would depend on broadcasting rights, regulatory requirements, customer consent and a clear separation between the media and betting businesses.
DAZN Bet is using DAZN’s sports audience without turning the streaming service itself into a betting interface.
Ontario first, Alberta next
DAZN Bet entered Canada through Ontario before expanding into Alberta. Alberta’s regulated online iGaming market opened on July 13, 2026.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation oversees the commercial market. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis acts as the regulator.
Ontario’s market is managed commercially by iGaming Ontario. Registered operators and suppliers must meet standards overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The iGaming Ontario directory listed DAZN Bet under DZBT Marketing Limited. It recorded 49 operators and 84 gaming websites as of September 1, 2026.
Why the second-screen model matters
Keeping betting outside a live sports broadcast avoids combining streaming access, wagering transactions, customer consent and compliance controls in one interface.
The model also allows DAZN Bet to reach DAZN’s sports audience without assuming that every viewer wants to bet. The company says any future integration will reflect Canadian customer behaviour and local rules rather than copy its European operations.
Canada has no single sportsbook market
DAZN Bet’s expansion does not create a national sportsbook market. Ontario and Alberta have separate systems, government entities, regulators and market structures.
- Ontario: iGaming Ontario contracts with private operators, while the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario sets and enforces regulatory standards.
- Alberta: the Alberta iGaming Corporation manages the commercial market, while Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates operators.
- Consumer controls: age and identity checks, geolocation, responsible gambling tools and customer consent apply within each provincial framework.
The practical consequence is that a streaming-linked betting product would need to meet separate provincial requirements before it could operate across both markets.
Competition extends beyond odds
DAZN Bet is entering a competitive Ontario market and a newly opened Alberta market. The company’s stated advantage is the DAZN sports brand. It also identifies casino products and locally tailored customer experiences as important parts of its strategy.
The second-screen approach leaves DAZN Bet competing for attention without making the streaming platform a betting terminal. That may slow integration, but it keeps the media and wagering businesses visibly separate as Canadian regulators and customers assess the model.
