Tyson Philpot produced a record-setting night on October 3, catching 11 passes for 207 yards as the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 37-10 at Percival Molson Stadium.

Montreal finished first in the Canadian Football League’s East Division, earning a bye and home-field advantage for the Eastern Final.

Philpot broke two major marks

Philpot’s 113th catch of the season set a new Montreal single-season receptions record. He also finished with 1,663 receiving yards, establishing a Canadian single-season CFL record at that point in the game.

The CFL reported that Philpot’s performance came during a dominant team display:

  • Montreal held the ball for 40 minutes and 38 seconds.
  • Winnipeg had possession for 19 minutes and 22 seconds.
  • Montreal recorded 36 first downs, compared with six for Winnipeg.

Montreal skips the semi-final

First place changes the Alouettes’ playoff route. They will not play in the Eastern Semi-Final, and the Eastern Final will be held in Montreal.

The CFL’s published schedule lists the game for Saturday, November 7, at 3 p.m. Eastern time. Montreal is making its fifth consecutive Eastern Final appearance, and its path to the Grey Cup now runs through Percival Molson Stadium.

The Montreal Alouettes’ game report confirmed that the victory clinched first place in the division.

One win, two kinds of advantage

A crowd of 23,035 watched Montreal turn the divisional race into a decisive finish. Philpot supplied the headline numbers, but the 37-10 result also reflected control on offence, defence and special teams.

Montreal now has both extra rest and the home crowd for the game that decides the East’s Grey Cup representative. For Alouettes supporters, the regular-season finale delivered the biggest possible playoff advantage.
