DraftKings Plans Free Fuel Events in Edmonton and Toronto on Sept. 2
DraftKings will offer free gasoline at selected Edmonton and Toronto stations, bringing sportsbook marketing into public spaces as provincial rules diverge.
DraftKings will hold its Gameday Fuel campaign at selected gas stations in Edmonton and Toronto on September 2, 2026. The company says eligible passenger vehicles can receive free gasoline while supplies last.
DraftKings has not disclosed the number of participating stations, fuel limits, event hours or whether customers must have an account. It said the locations and schedules will be announced separately.
The promotion brings a betting brand into everyday consumer spaces while Alberta and Ontario regulate online gaming through different systems.
One campaign, two regulatory systems
DraftKings is using the same football-season campaign in both provinces. Its regulated online operations face different registration, oversight and player-protection requirements in each market.
Alberta’s regulated online market launched on July 13, 2026. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates the sector. The Alberta iGaming Corporation manages commercial agreements, anti-money-laundering functions, financial reporting and income reporting.
Operators in Alberta must register with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and sign a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation before conducting and managing a legal iGaming platform. The framework also includes centralized self-exclusion and rules covering advertising and player protection.
Ontario uses a separate private-market model. Operators must register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, the province’s conduct-and-manage entity.
iGaming Ontario’s regulated-operator directory listed Crown DK CAN Ltd. with DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino as of August 6, 2026.
- Ontario players must be at least 19 and physically located in the province.
- Alberta’s online betting age is 18.
- Operators in both provinces face separate registration and responsible-gambling requirements.
Public visibility brings compliance pressure
DraftKings said its Canadian operations comply with the regulatory frameworks in Alberta and Ontario. The company also promoted responsible-gambling tools, including deposit limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion.
A gas-station event can reach people who are not actively searching for a betting app. It also places gambling-related branding in public spaces used by families and younger audiences. That makes advertising compliance and age protections relevant issues for regulators.
As of August 31, neither DraftKings nor the published campaign terms had provided the Edmonton and Toronto addresses. Eligibility restrictions and supply limits will apply, and the offer may vary by location.
What customers need to know
- Free-fuel events are scheduled for September 2 in Edmonton and Toronto.
- Participating locations and operating hours remain pending.
- The offer covers eligible passenger vehicles while supplies last.
- Customers may face location, eligibility and supply restrictions.
- Players in Alberta and Ontario remain subject to separate age, registration, location and responsible-gambling rules.
The activation does not change either province’s licensing system. It illustrates how a national marketing campaign can operate alongside two different provincial iGaming frameworks.
