DAZN Bet is using its sports-streaming brand to compete in Ontario and Alberta, presenting betting, live scores and sports viewing as a combined second-screen experience. The operator launched in Ontario on June 30 and entered Alberta’s regulated online gambling market on July 13.

The rollout places DAZN Bet in two of Canada’s most competitive regulated online gaming markets. iGaming Ontario’s official directory listed 48 regulated operators and 83 gaming websites as of August 6, including DAZN Bet. Alberta’s regulator says the province now has dozens of registered operators and suppliers.

DAZN Bet is entering a mature Ontario market while joining Alberta’s regulated market at the start of its commercial expansion.

Streaming is the main pitch

DAZN Bet Canada Managing Director Richard Rawlinson said the company is relying on sports-fan familiarity, product quality, responsible gaming and local relevance to build its position, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

DAZN Bet does not currently process wagers directly inside the DAZN streaming service. Its stated plan is to connect the viewing experience with a separate betting platform on a mobile device. Users can watch games while checking scores, news and betting markets, Canadian Gaming Business reported.

The strategy gives DAZN Bet a different starting point from sportsbooks built mainly around odds, bonuses or media applications. The company already operates a sports-streaming service in Canada and holds rights to several sports properties, including selected Canadian Football League broadcasts, according to Canadian Gaming Business.

Two provinces, two regulatory structures

Ontario and Alberta use different market models.

  • In Ontario, DAZN Bet appears in iGaming Ontario’s regulated operator directory under DZBT Marketing Limited. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario regulates the market, while iGaming Ontario manages the commercial online gaming framework with approved operators.
  • In Alberta, operators must register with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and sign a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis handles regulatory oversight. The Alberta iGaming Corporation handles commercial agreements, anti-money-laundering matters, financial reporting and income reporting.

Alberta’s regulated commercial market opened on July 13. The province also requires registered operators to integrate with its centralized self-exclusion program. The program allows players to exclude themselves from online platforms, land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres.

Player protections remain part of the contest

Ontario requires players to be at least 19 years old for regulated internet gaming. Its BetGuard program allows eligible players to opt out of all regulated online gaming platforms, including Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation sites.

Players can choose exclusion periods ranging from six months to five years, or select a custom period, according to iGaming Ontario.

The commercial challenge is clear. A strong sports brand may attract attention, but DAZN Bet must convert that attention into regulated accounts and repeat use while supporting responsible play. Sports coverage cannot become a pressure point that encourages gambling.

What changes next

DAZN Bet’s Canadian rollout remains in its early phase. Its website launched first in Ontario, and the operator said it planned to extend the platform to mobile devices. The company has not announced direct betting transactions inside the DAZN streaming service.

The next test is whether DAZN can persuade its streaming audience to use a separate sportsbook often enough to challenge established brands. Ontario offers a mature field of regulated sites. Alberta presents a newer market where operators are competing to establish early brand loyalty.

For consumers, the difference between the two launches is practical. Ontario adds another operator to an already crowded market. Alberta’s launch gives players more regulated choice as the province builds its online gaming system and self-exclusion safeguards.
